A Radiological Study Concerning the Anterior Loop of the Mandibular Canal and the Location of the Mental Foramen in a Greek Population

چکیده
The mental foramen can be found in various locations, ranging from the root of the first lower premolar to the roots of the first molar. The anterior loop is described as the mental canal, which rises from the mandibular canal and runs outward, upward, and backward to open at the mental foramen. The knowledge of the location of the mental foramen and the existence of an anterior loop is important for successful administration of local anaesthesia, for surgical (including implantology), operative or diagnostic purposes. The aim of the study was to evaluate the radiographic appearance of the position of the mental foramen and the presence of an anterior loop of the mandibular canal in a Greek population. 1000 panoramic radiographs of Greek adult patients were interpreted. The course of the mandibular canal and the position of the mental foramen were evaluated. The most frequent position of the mental foramen was under the second lower premolar (52.9%), followed by the one between premolars (32.3%). An anterior loop of the mandibular canal was present in 29.8% of the radiographs observed. The anterior loop demands attention during pre-surgical evaluation for implant placement. Our results are in agreement with the results of similar studies of other ethnic groups.

Introduction: Regarding the anatomic variety in the anterior mandible it is necessary to obtain adequate information about the vital structures in this area to protect them in dental surgeries and preventing injuries that might occur afterwards. The aim of this study is to describe anatomic characteristics of mental foramen and anterior loop on CBCT images. Materials and Methods: On CBCT imag...

Purpose: Currently panoramic radiography is used for diagnostic dental, and bone lesions, but anatomical structures also can see, for example incisive canal. At present time incisive canal position is investigated in Iranian population. Materials and Methods: Panoramic radiographs were taken by Planmeca machine from 412 patients using standard exposure. The position of patient was in compliance...

Background and aim: Mental nerve injury is one of the challenges of implant surgeries in the anterior mandibular region, which leads to complications such as paresthesia of the lip and chin. The present study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of the Inferior Alveolar Nerve's (IAN) anterior loop and mandibular incisive canal by use of CBCT. Materials and Methods: In this descriptive stud...

Introduction: Any foramen in the buccal surface of mandibular body that transfers mental nerve and vessels except mental foramen, is called Accessory Mental Foramen (AMF). The objective of this study was the determination of the AMF using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Materials and Methods: this descriptive study was done on 180 CBCT projections which were selected by convenience samp...
